When you are weak that's when he's strong,
Even though you don't know how,
God can and he will hold you now

Tokyo 28/01/2013 – 31/01/2013.
Well I fell apart at the airport. From the second I packed
my room up last Sunday it all began to sink in that I was not coming back, well
not anytime soon anyway! By the time we had checked in I began to shake and
cry, “I changed my mind…I don’t want to do this anymore!” Mum, proving even
when you are 23 mothers know how to trick you, calmly replies, “Ok, lets go
speak to the lady at the counter and see if we can get your bags back and we
will go home.” I froze, emotional as I was I knew I wanted to at least try. Mum
of course knew this too! While I continued to cry and felt my heart pound, Mum
stayed strong and controlled. In fact she didn’t cry at all in front of me!
Eventually I dried my tears and said goodbye to my parents! I felt like
screaming inside but wanted Mum and Tony to have a picture of me smiling with
no tears as I departed…
Tokyo welcomed me with snow! Beautiful, clean, white snow
everywhere! I caught a train from the airport at Narita Airport to Shinjuku,
where I would be staying! Praise God, I who gets lost in my own area, was able
to do this easily!
I spent that first day walking around Shinjuku and Tokyo.
The shopping truly was AMAZING; 7 level Abercrombie and Fitch, 8 level Gucci,
12 level shopping centres; it was otherworldly!
The lights were memorising, unfortunately not captured so well in photos.
The food on offer looked and tasted amazing too! There was too much to choose from!
However, as the night kept on I felt extremely overwhelmed and anxious about being in this foreign, non-English speaking , new culture. Thank God for FACETIME…
This can contained air from Mount Fuji for only around

Oppan Tokyo Style
All my loving, Joey!!!!!!
Though some of the clothing I didn’t quite understand…those
bears are the sleaves for this kids Adidas jacket.
Nearly 7 000kms away yet it felt as though my family were
with me! My nightly tradition became, face timing my parents, writing in my
prayer journal and reading till I fell asleep. God gave me the peace I needed
and those three nights were not as overwhelming as they first seemed.
Sick of getting lost and feeling alone I did a Tokyo tour my
second day there!
At Tokyo Tower! The world’s tallest pre-standing steel
tower.
At a Shrine, behind me is the purification gate!
Shrines are Shinto, Temples are Buddhist.
At Imperial Gardens.
The Tokyo tour was so much fun, I booked the Mount Fuji tour
for my last day!!
This egg was hard boiled in sulphur, it is belived to add 7
years onto your life.
It was black on the outside, however, once you peeled off
the shell it looked and tasted like a normal egg!
My Traditional Japanese meal included: salad (OK), tempura (YUM), lotus
root (YUM), tofu(OK), miso soup (YUCK!), rice (YUM), steamed vegetables (OK) and beef, chicken and
pork sticks (YUM).
Did You Know…Some young women in Japan were masks in the morning because they have not yet put on their make up.
Posing with a ninja
Fighting a Samurai
Did you know…Along with fire and lock down drills, Japanese
students have earthquake drills.
In the end it
was an EXPERIENCE (as my dear friend Ang Simpson would say!) Tokyo was a
krayzie whirlwind and a bigger culture shock than I imagined!
I am thankful
to my Mum and Tony who calmed me down at night and to my POWERFUL God, who gave
me His strength and peace when I needed it!!!!
P.S.
It wouldn’t be Japan without a squat toilet!
